Winter Wear Essentials – Buff

The humble buff is my absolute essential, it’s a cheap and extremely versatile piece of kit which can be adapted into all sorts of garments to protect you from the harsh winter weather. From scarves, to hats and bandanas.

In the winter, using it as a scarf will prevent the icy wind going down your neck and chilling the body. It’s particularly useful if you’re not equipped with a base layer. They can be worn like this on dry crisp days or on under a jacket on wet rainy days.

It’s best to prevent them from getting wet, the material they’re made from isn’t water repellent so if it’s rainy and you don’t keep it covered you’ll end up with a soggy wet mass around your neck – it might keep the wind out that way but it probably won’t keep you warm!

If you’re follicly challenged like myself and you’re sporting a streamlined bonce, the chill winter wind can cause a bit of pain on the scalp. The buff can quickly and easily be transformed into a hat to take the edge off. You’ll not win any fashion contests in doing it, so it really depends on if you value looks over comfort in that situation.

As versatile as a buff is, sometimes you need to remove them, the weather might get too hot for it or it might have got wet. Either way the next beauty of the buff is in the ease of storage. They take up next to no space and can be easily wrapped around the wrist or tucked into a belt with minimal fuss.

For what it is, the uses are phenomenal and it’s why the buff is on my winter essentials!
